The Studio of Widman

Bradley Widman
Oil Painter, Author
Bradley is a Painter and Author residing in Amherst NY. He paints full time exclusively with oil on canvas.
His work typically employs a limited palette of earth tones—greens, reds, mustards, and browns. A disciplined, almost monastic lifestyle is reflected throughout his art.
His compositions are often populated by figures—ranging from infant to adult forms—that occasionally take on specific, anthropomorphic shapes, such as deer or birds. Antique toys, including rocking horses and penny-farthing bicycles, appear as recurring motifs. Nudes of both sexes are rendered with organically geometric and ornamental adornments, contributing to an overall effect that is spiritually and psychologically evocative.
The structure of his finished pieces often provides an architectural framework—a habitat in which these figures enact symbolic roles. Through this conceptual design, viewers are invited into an esoteric realm beyond ordinary perception, a space to which Widman gently guides us. This is central to his intent: to offer viewers a chance to experience an altered state of consciousness.
Like the changing seasons, Widman is in constant evolution—both in his paintings and his writings. Yet he remains grounded in his spiritual convictions. As his creative life unfolds, he explores new colors and subjects with freedom and curiosity.
Widman's work is highly stylized and deeply influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement. In addition to being a prolific oil painter, he is the published author of two books: The Solitary Seed and The Monastic Overture. Both are thoughtful compilations of his paintings, poetry, and writings on aesthetic theory.
Artist Statement

"When an artist knows the responsibility he can take upon himself, that awareness itself can be a strong part of his foundation. As an artist, I am a chronicler of the human spirit, recording its movement through life between fertility and sterility, from commencement to conclusion, birth to death, I transcribe and translate the flow and migration of life.
Time and the activity within it, consisting of thought, circumstance and/or action is the essential character and makeup of my work. Through my work, one receives the opportunity to view our eternal relationship with ourselves in all our levels of states of being.
Art is a dialogue with oneself and an utterance from our past.
Through Art, I believe we come to a form of acceptance of each
other. Merging with all creation through the act of creating,
I press the walls and boundaries of my being into that of others.
Both myself and viewer celebrate a common percepcion by
exhibiting internally a union of elevated realization of our
humanhood. From our infancy in time we have been brought
together by the unity of experiencing the human mind.
Traveling through and beyond the confines of the self, all
hings become united with lucid intelligence, understanding
and likeness.
I am influenced by the internal and external workings and movement of my
own existence and am aware of the energy and information it manifests. I
believe when engaging and in prolonging the learning about others through
teaching revelations of the self and that of creation whether through my
painting or my writings. I amplify existence on a whole using these life giving
mediums as the foundation for fertile creativity."
